Roy Thinnes (The Invaders) Will Be Guest at Mid-Atlantic Nostalgia Convention

I just got the word today from one of the Mid-Atlantic Nostalgia Convention's organizers that Roy Thinnes has contracted to be a guest-star there.

This will be Thinnes' first appearance at a convention in over 20 years, so don't miss out on this great opportunity to meet him, chat with him, get an autograph, maybe even a photo-op with him.

The days: September 23 to 25, 2010
The place: Marriott Hotel, Hunt Valley, Maryland
The cost? Only $15 to get in the door - you can't beat that!

Also at the convention will be science fiction stars Van Williams (The Green Hornet), Mark Goddard (Lost In Space), and Marsha Hunt who guest-starred in a few sci fi series.

World Of Warcraft decorative steins from Taverncraft

I received a presss release a few days ago from Taverncraft, a company offering World of Warcraft steins - and they look really, really cool. Who needs the press release, the photos are advertisement enough.

These steins can be pre-ordered at: warsteins.com. Cost is about $150 for each stein, and apparently they won't be ready to ship until April 2010.

No Jim Garner? No Rockford!!!!!!!!!

It is to vomit, as Hollywood brings back yet another TV series that is incomparable in its original.

Dermot Mulroney to star in "Rockford" update

Dermot Mulroney is NBC's new Jim Rockford.

In his first regular TV role, Mulroney is set to play the iconic private eye in the network's updated take on the hit 1970s drama that starred James Garner in the title role.

The new Jim Rockford is described as "slightly crumpled, wry humored, cynical, world weary, compassionate when it's called for and easily irritated by morons."

His troubled past includes doing some time as a convict and as a cop.

Aside from an arc on NBC's "Friends" in 2003, "My Best Friend's Wedding" co-star Mulroney has been focused on features, most recently appearing in "Burn After Reading."

NBC's "Rockford Files" was written by "House" creator David Shore, who is executive producing with Steve Carell.

You know what I'd like to see? If they must persist in retreading the great shows of the past, at least do it with a twist. A "Jenna Rockford" - some retread where they make the hero a woman instead of a guy.

Or heck, any series where the woman is a hero. For every show like The Closer or Bones (in which the woman is the star, yeah, but in an ensemble cast) we get retreads like White Collar (It Takes a Thief). The Good Wife - which I've never watched - is a lawyer drama rather than a cop or adventure show, eh?

Then there's the obscenity that is Spike TV, contributing to the further coarsening of the US with its crap beyond crap such as Blue Mountain High, Manswers, 1,000 Ways to Die and so on. And of course women contributing to their own degradation by starring in The Mean Girls Club and crap like that. God it sickens me!

I would never watch this crap but I'm forced to sit through the commercials (mercifully muted) while tryng to watch the various CSIs... and even NY and Miami are getting "ballsier" , i.e. more trying to titillate the male viewer and/or attract those who just love to look at gore...
